How to Connect a Custom Domain to Lovable
Your app works on a free lovable.app address, but a real brand needs its own domain. Here is the full setup, the exact DNS records and what to do when it gets stuck.
Connect your domain in 6 steps
- Publish your project first — the domain only serves the site once it is published.
- Open Project → Settings → Domains, or choose Add domain in the Publish window.
- Under Connect existing domain, click Connect domain, type your domain and choose root domain (example.com) or subdomain (app.example.com).
- Pick automatic setup (log in to your domain provider) or add the records yourself — see the table below.
- If you use www, add its own A record named www and a TXT record named _lovable.www.
- Go back to Lovable, check the status, and wait. Lovable adds the SSL certificate (the padlock) by itself.
The DNS records you need
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| A | @ (root) or the subdomain, e.g. app | 185.158.133.1 |
| TXT | _lovable (root) or _lovable.app (subdomain) | The lovable_verify=… code from the setup window |
| A (optional) | www | 185.158.133.1 |
| TXT (optional) | _lovable.www | The verify code shown for www |
Set TTL to 300 seconds or leave your provider's default. Some providers want the name left blank, or the full domain, instead of @.
Why the domain is not working yet
- Old records are still there. Delete any other A, AAAA or CNAME record for the same name. Keep MX records — those run your email.
- DNS has not spread yet. It is often minutes, but can take up to 72 hours.
- The TXT value was copied wrong. Copy it again from Lovable — it must start with lovable_verify=.
- The site is not published. The domain shows nothing until you press Publish.
- You are on the Free plan. Custom domains need a paid plan; lovable.app addresses are free.
Root domain or subdomain?
A root domain (example.com) is best for your main website. A subdomain (app.example.com) is good when your main site lives somewhere else and the Lovable app is the product or dashboard.
When you connect a root domain, Lovable turns on the www redirect by default, so visitors who type www still land in the right place.
After the domain is live
- Update links in your social profiles and emails to the new address.
- Add the domain to Google Search Console so Google indexes the right address.
- Each time you change the app, click Publish again — the domain always shows the last published version.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a custom domain on the free plan?
No. Connecting your own domain needs a paid Lovable plan. Publishing to a lovable.app address is free on all plans.
What IP address does Lovable use?
Point the A record to 185.158.133.1, plus a TXT record that starts with lovable_verify=.
How long does it take?
Often under an hour, but DNS can take up to 72 hours to spread worldwide.
Do I need to buy SSL?
No. Lovable issues the SSL certificate automatically.
Will my email stop working?
Not if you keep your MX records. Only remove A, AAAA or CNAME records that clash with the new ones.
