How to Undo Changes in Lovable (Version History)
Lovable made a change that broke your app? You don't need to fix it by hand. Every change is saved, and you can go back to a working version in seconds.
Revert to an earlier version
- Open History from the top bar of the editor, or use + → Project → History next to the chat box.
- Click a version to preview it and confirm it is the one that worked.
- Choose Revert (or Revert to this version) and confirm.
- Test the preview, then publish if you want the live site to match.
What reverting does and doesn't do
| Restored | Not restored |
|---|---|
| All code and pages | Rows saved in your database |
| Backend functions (redeployed) | Credits already spent |
| Design and settings in code | Very old versions may be view-only |
Your chat messages stay, so you can still read what was tried.
When to revert instead of fixing
- The same error survives two fix attempts.
- A big change touched many pages and things feel unstable.
- You preferred a design from earlier and want it back exactly.
Revert smart, not often
After reverting, ask for the change again in smaller steps. Describe one thing at a time and test each step — this saves credits and avoids the same break.
For tricky features, use Plan mode first so you can approve the approach before code changes.
Frequently asked questions
Does reverting cost credits?
No. Reverting is free, but credits already spent on the reverted work are not refunded.
Will reverting delete my database data?
No. It restores code, not the data saved in your database.
Can I restore part of a version?
No, it restores the whole project. Ask Lovable to re-apply only the parts you want.
Do I lose my chat?
No. Later chat messages stay visible.
Does it change my live site?
Only after you publish again.
